  1. I’ve worked with a couple of these folks over the years and what they really do is diagnose problems with your site that are stopping it from showing up in search results. Think technical audits, keyword research, content suggestions, link building advice. It’s a lot of analysis and strategy, honestly more spreadsheet work than people expect.

The thing nobody tells you is that a decent consultant spends half their time just managing expectations, since SEO results take months not days. I learned that the hard way after expecting overnight changes. Curious if others found the same, does it usually take longer than the consultant initially promises?

A buddy of mine runs a small shop and brought in an SEO guy last spring. The guy spent most of his time on technical stuff, site speed, mobile issues, schema markup, things most of us never think about. Traffic did creep up over a few months but it wasn’t some overnight miracle like people online sometimes promise. Felt more like slow steady progress, which honestly seems more realistic to me.

Honestly the best advice I ever got from an SEO person was pretty boring, just write better content and stop stuffing keywords everywhere. No magic formula, no secret trick, just consistency over a long period. Took me a while to accept that because I wanted a fast fix. Still waiting on bigger results but at least it feels sustainable instead of some sketchy shortcut that might get penalized later.
